We are growing and excited to announce that Dr. James Ulibarri has joined our Southeastern Spine team! Dr. James “Jim” Ulibarri grew up on a ranch south of Douglas Wyoming and obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Wyoming. He then completed his medical degree and orthopedic surgery training at the University of Wisconsin, followed by his spine surgery training at the University of Pittsburgh. After completion, he and his family spent several years in Knoxville, Tn. where Dr. Ulibarri worked as a spinal surgeon at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville Hospital.
Dr. Ulibarri returned to his home state of Wyoming for a number of years, however, East Tennessee had captured his heart. He enjoys an active outdoor lifestyle including activities such as bicycling, paddle boarding, and polo just to name a few. The evolution of Chattanooga as an active city over the years along with the mountain beauty drew him back to East Tennessee. He recently reconnected with Dr. Jay Jolley whom he had originally met 13 years ago.
Dr. Ulibarri is excited to return to East Tennessee joining Southeastern Spine to practice with Dr. Jolley. He is now in his second decade of practicing spinal surgery and has developed special interest in motion preservation and less invasive spinal procedures of the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine.
Dr. Ulibarri is board certified with the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgery and the North American Spine Society.

Dr. Jay Jolley and Nurse Practitioner Rebecca Payne recently completed Ragnar Tennessee, a relay race from Chattanooga to Nashville! It took their team of 12 runners roughly 31 hours (3 hours ahead of their set schedule) and was a total of “200-ish” miles (that’s a Ragnar term). Their team name was appropriately called, “What were we thinking?!” Both Dr. Jolley and Rebecca reported the race was “such a blast!” The photo was taken just after they crossed the finish line! Congratulations to you both on such an amazing accomplishment!
You are invited to the Grand Opening of Southeastern Spine’s Second Location! Join us on Tuesday, April 21st, 6:00 PM, at 9309 Apison Pike in Ooltewah. We will celebrate our expansion in the Ooltewah and Collegedale area!
Our providers, Jay Jolley, MD, Jessica Scott, PA-C, and Rebecca Payne, FNP-BC, as well as our entire staff, are thrilled to to offer our patients the convenience of a second office. Office hours will remain the same at our Downtown Chattanooga location.
